The latest fraud (may be I have come to know recently) is a person phones and informs you that he is calling from the bank and your card is being used for an on line transaction giving the card's last four digits and he also tells you the transaction, amount etc. and advises you to block your card.
Then he transfers your line to a so-called call centre of the bank for the blocking of the card. That other person is able to give you all the authentication you ask for like your address, date of birth etc. etc. and then asks you to sms your CVV No. at the back of the card etc. to process the refund of the amount transacted on your card. The whole process is so well done that even people taking precautions get cheated. This has happened to a few people that I know.
Hence the precaution is NEVER SHARE YOUR PIN or CVV no. either on phone or through SMS.
Another precaution is that most of the emails that come asking for verification of your personal details are from fraudsters. But the mail will appear as if it is from your bank but it is from somewhere else. If you look at the email id closely you will notice the difference. If you just right click on the email id you will know to whom the reply goes. Always check on phone with your banker if the bank has asked for such verification. I have invariably found that the mails are from fraudsters.
