13 Important do’s and don’ts to avoid health hazards caused by floods
The Chennai floods this season have broken all records. The city has not been hit with a rainstorm of this degree in about 100 years. The entire city is reeling under the effects of this flood, with many becoming victims of diseases and injuries as a result.
Floods in your city can increase the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, Hepatitis A etc. Not only that, the transmission of vector borne diseases such as dengue, malaria and chikungunya increases as well. Severe flooding can even lead to accidents such as electric shocks. However, there are certain precautions you can take to avoid these potential health hazards.
1. Avoid flood waters as these may have been contaminated with sewage and remains of animals
2. Boil water before consuming it or using it to cook food
3. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before eating, and drinking and always use a disinfecting soap
4. Avoid water coming from wells until it has been treated
5. Throw away food that has come in contact with flood water, whether it was refrigerated or not
6. Throw away food that has been standing at room temperature for more than two hours or smells foul or has changed colour and texture
7. Make sure you cover and treat any open cuts or wounds
8. Bathe regularly
9. Make sure you use mosquito repellents at home and on your clothing and skin
10. Don’t touch open wire or sockets or let them come in contact with water as it can cause shocks
11. Don’t allow your pets to go outside as they can become hosts of vector borne diseases
12. Throw away accumulated garbage and debris as they can turn into a breeding ground for rats and mosquitoes
13. Make full use of vaccination facilities
By adopting these simple measures, you can safely avoid the most common types of health hazards prevalent during floods.

why we fast on religious occasions?

To rebuild your immune system, fast 8 days an year

New York: Here’s news for those who hate fasting. Starving for just eight days a year can bolster your immune system like never before.

Fasting encourages body to replace old and damaged cells – especially, if the immune system has been damaged by aging or cancer treatment, researchers said.
“When you starve, the system tries to save energy, and one of the things it can do to save energy is to recycle a lot of the immune cells that are not needed, especially those that may be damaged” explained Valter Longo, a longevity expert from the University of Southern California.

During the study, the researchers found fasting for two to four days every six months forced the body into survival mode – using up stores of fat and sugar and breaking down old cells.

The body sends a signal telling to regenerate and rebuild the entire system. “With a system heavily damaged by chemotherapy or ageing, fasting cycles can generate a new immune system” Longo noted.

World's 1st Microchip Pills

Bye Bye to all expensive scans, X-rays and other unnecessary tests prescribed by doctors.

World's first microchip pill has been introduced and approved by FDA.

The microchip is a normal digital chip made up of silicon with traces of magnesium and copper and is no bigger than the size of a normal medicine.

Once the microchip is ingested, it gets activated by the digestive fluids of stomach and starts generating electric signals.

These signals are received by a battery operated patch on the patient’s skin which forwards the medical information to a mobile app on patient’s consent.

The battery operated patch has a life of seven days and in the mean duration, it is responsible for receiving all the inner-body conditions from the microchip.

The conditions such as heart rate, temperature, body position are tracked and then forwarded to the clinicians (via mobile app) so that the patient can be medicated accordingly.

Currently the device has been approved to be used with placebo pills so as to test it’s safety and working.

If the procedure turns out to be successful and safe, microchips will be soon integrated with medication.

This chip will help to analyse Heart Diseases also.
