नवरात्रि अनुष्ठान का विधि- विधान :-
नवरात्रि साधना को दो भागें में बाँटा जा सकता है : एक उन दिनों की जाने वाली जप संख्या एवं विधान प्रक्रिया। दूसरे आहार- विहार सम्बन्धी प्रतिबन्धों की तपश्चर्या ।। दोनों को मिलाकर ही अनुष्ठान पुरश्चरणों की विशेष साधना सम्पन्न होती है।
जप संख्या के बारे में विधान यह है कि ९ दिनों में २४ हजार गायत्री मन्त्रों का जप पूरा होना चाहिए। कारण २४ हजार जप का लघु गायत्री अनुष्ठान होता है। प्रतिदिन २७ माला जप करने से ९ दिन में २४० मालायें अथवा २४०० मंत्र जप पूरा हो जाता है। माला में यों १०८ दाने होते हैं पर ८ अशुद्ध उच्चारण अथवा भूल- चूक का हिसाब छोड़ कर गणना १०० की ही की जाती है। इसलिये प्रतिदिन २७ माला का क्रम रखा जाता है। मोटा अनुपात घण्टे में ११- ११ माला का रहता है। इस प्रकार प्रायः २(१/२) घण्टे इस जप में लग जाते हैं। चूंकि उसमें संख्या विधान मुख्य है इसलिए गणना के लिए माला का उपयोग आवश्यक है। सामान्य उपासना में घड़ी की सहायता से ४५ मिनट का पता चल सकता है, पर जप में गति की न्यूनाधिकता रहने से संख्या की जानकारी बिना माला के नहीं हो सकती। अस्तु नवरात्रि साधना में गणना की आवश्यकता को ध्यान में रखते हुए माला का उपयोग आवश्यक माना गया है।
आजकल हर बात में नकलीपन की भरमार है। मालाएँ भी बाजार में नकली लकड़ी की बिकती हैं। अच्छा यह है कि उसमें छल- कपट न हो जिस चीज की है उसी की जानी और बताई जाय। कुछ के बदले में कुछ मिलने का भ्रम न रहे। तुलसी, चन्दन और रूद्राक्ष की मालाएँ अधिक पवित्र मानी गई हैं। इनमें से प्रायः चन्दन की ही आसानी से मिल सकती हैं। गायत्री तप मे तुलसी की माला को प्रधान माना गया है, पर वह अपने यहाँ बोई हुई सूखी लकड़ी की हो और अपने सामने बने तो ही कुछ विश्वास की बात हो सकती है। बाजार में अरहर की लकड़ी ही तुलसी के नाम पर हर दिन टनों की तादाद में बनती और बिकती देखी जाती है। हमें चन्दन की माला ही आसानी से मिल सकेगी यों उसमें भी लकड़ी पर चन्दन का सेन्ट चुपड़ का धोखे बाजी खूब चलती है। सावधानी बरतने पर सह समस्या आसानी से हल हो सकती है और असली चन्दन की माला मिल सकती है।
