Aloo Peas Masala Curry is a popular chaat dish in any restaurant or office pantries. We can also use this as gravy for any Indian Breads. My daughter's Hindi Tution teacher served this Aloo Peas Masala curryonce when I went to her home. It was so delicious and immediately I asked her to share the recipe. I followed her procedure and made this yummy Aloo Peas Masala curry and it turned out awesome. It was so delicious and my family enjoyed this yummy evening chaat. We can also serve this curry with any Indian Breads!!!

White(Yellow) peas 1 Cup*
Potato1 medium or 2 small
Turmeric Powder1/2 teaspoon
Red Chilli Powder1/2 teaspoon
Coriander Powder1 teaspoon
Tamarind 1 small gooseberry size
Grated Jaggery1 teaspoon
SaltTo taste
Oil1 teaspoon
Mustard Seeds1 teaspoon
Curry Leavesfew

  1. Wash and Soak the yellow / White peas overnight or atleast for 8 hours. Next day, pressure cook the peas with salt and allow for 4-5 whistles.  Also pressure cook the potatoes, peel them and cut them into small cubes

  2. Once the peas is cooked, allow it to cool off. Do not drain the excess water from peas. We can use the water for cooking. Take 2 tablespoon of cooked peas in a mixer and grind it to a nice paste

  3. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add curry leaves and fry for few seconds. Then add the ground peas paste along with turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Saute this mixture for 5 mins.

  4. Add the remaining peas, cubed potatoes and mix it gently. Allow it to cook for 15 mins. Adjust the salt. 

  5. In a small bowl extract the tamarind juice and add it to the bowl. Also add grated jaggery and mix well. Add this tamarind-jaggery juice to the cooked peas and mix well. Allow it to boil for another 10 minutes in very low flame and then switch off the flame. Now our Aloo Peas Masala curry is ready!!!

  6. Serve this Aloo Peas Masala curry as a chaat garnished with finely chopped onions and enjoy your evening!!!
