Ginger is a root commonly used in most Indian preparations. It is a herb that has a strong distinct flavor. But, ginger is used not only because of its flavor but also on account of its medicinal properties. Chinese have recommended the use of ginger for more than 2000 years as it cures and prevents health problems. It has high levels of gingerol which gives ginger its zingy flavor.

5. Gingerol also has anti-cancer properties which may inhibit the growth of cancer causing cells especially preventing colorectal cancer and ovarian cancer.
6. Ginger does not only keep you warm on a cold day but also helps in healthy sweating preventing you from cold and flu. It boosts your immunity and protects you from infections.
7. Ginger increases blood circulation and thereby raises metabolic rate.
8. It also has anti bacterial and anti viral properties.
9. Ginger helps to relieve cough, headaches, asthma etc.
You do not have to consume a large amount of ginger to reap its health benefits. Mixing 1-2 tsp ginger juice with warm water or honey is an age-old remedy for common cold and cough. Alternatively, eating a small piece daily on an empty stomach (1/4th inch) can work wonders for your body.
