" THE JESUIT ARC: FROM EDUCATION TO POLITICS " -
(TOI - 04 Sep 2014).

The Article reminded me of a sales gimmick played by an Archbishop , and reported by an English daily on 16 May 2013 :

" Journalists who went to meet Faridabad Archbishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara on his invite were in for a surprise. After an 'informal' meeting, a lunch was served and before they left the venue, all of them were handed a plain white envelope. Curious, the journalists opened to find 'thank you' note, bearing the signature of the Archbishop, and a crisp Rs 1,000 note. Angered, the journalists confronted the priest who was distributing it and told him it was humiliating. All of them returned the envelopes. The Archbishop later clarified that the gesture had been misunderstood. The idea, he claimed, was to compensate the reporters, many of whom had not come in their official vehicle, for their conveyance ".

The question that arises in my
mind : What's the consideration for TOI, for publishing this 'BULLSHIT' of anArticle ?

Here's why.

Lets take the 'Patron Saint of Indigenisation ' - a la - Robert De Nobili.

The 'Intellectual Kshatriya' - (late) Sita Ram Goel, vividly chronicles the 'FRAUD' of Robert De Nobili on the people of Madurai by his Madurai Mission. He wrote, in his excellent expose : " Catholic Ashrams : Sanyasins or Swindlers "
http://www.voiceofdharma.org/books/ca/ch03.htm ] :

" The Madurai Mission had been carved out towards the end of the sixteenth century from the Jesuit missionary province on the Pearl Fishery Coast. The province had been visited in the middle of the same century by the Jesuit star-performer, St. Francis Xavier. He had converted thousands of local fishermen, known as Paravas, with the help of the
Portuguese navy which threatened to burn their fishing boats unless they embraced Christianity. The "saint" had also declared war on Brahmins who did not approve of his mission and methods. He had concluded, after surveying the scene, that Christianity had little chance even among the poorest Hindus so long as Brahmins enjoyed the prestige they did in Hindu society. Ever since, the Portuguese had been molesting, even killing
Brahmins wherever Portuguese power prevailed. But far from doing any damage to the prestige of Brahmins, Portuguese barbarism brought Christianity into contempt among the
Hindu masses. The pejorative term "paranghi" which the local people had used for a Portuguese came to mean a Christian as well. Fr. Fernandes who was stationed at Madurai since 1595, had not been able to make a single convert ".

Again. " So De Nobili decided to disguise himself as a Brahmin "for it seemed to me that with divine help I could do for God's sake, what they did with wicked cunning to win vain
applause and worldly honours". He had already learnt Tamil and Sanskrit. But he could not pass as a Brahmin unless he wore a sacred thread and grew a kuDumî (tuft of hair) on the back of his lead. These essential emblems of a Brahmin had been expressly forbidden to Christians by a Church Synod. So he sought an exemption from his immediate superior, the Archbishop of Cranganore. The Archbishop referred the matter to the Primate and the
Inquisitor at Goa. Both of them sanctioned the masquerade, and De Nobili "declared war on the powers of hell and set about with the torch of the Gospel to scatter the darkness of
error and bring to Christ as many souls as I could ".

Also. " De Nobili composed several books and tracts. They were written in Sanskrit or Tamil but packed with Christian lore. His most brilliant performance pertained to the most sacred Hindu scripture-the Veda. Having heard a folk tradition that the true Veda had been lost, he produced a book in Sanskrit and proclaimed that it was the Yajurveda which he had discovered in a distant land and which he had come to teach in India. Later
on, when he was found out, he would say with a straight face that what he meant was the Yesurveda, the Veda of Jesus ".

I rest my case on that FRAUD 'HARVESTER OF SOULS' - Robert De Nobili.

Talking of the Jesuits, can anyone forget the 'Goa Inquisiton' ? Of course, the 'secular mafia' wouldn't like to hear about it !! Introduced into Goa, by Francis Xavier, a Jesuit, the Inquisition wrought untold cruelty on the Hindus of Goa.

"At least from 1540 onwards,"
writes Dr. Teotonio R. de Souza of the Dept. of History, Universidade Lusofona, Lisbon, "and in the island of Goa before that year, all the Hindu idols had been annihilated or
had disappeared, all the temples had been destroyed and their sites and building materials were in most cases utilised to erect new Christian churches and chapels. Various viceregal and Church council decrees banished the Hindu priests from the Portuguese territories; the public practice of Hindu rites including marriage rites, was
banned; the state took upon itself the task of bringing up the Hindu orphan children; the Hindus were denied certain employments, while the Christians were preferred; it was
ensured that the Hindus would not harass those who became Christians, and on the contrary, the Hindus were obliged to assemble periodically in churches to listen to preaching or to the refutation of their religion."

Also, " Coming to the performance of the missionaries, he continues: "A particularly grave abuse was practised in Goa in the form of 'mass baptism' and what went before it. The practice was begun by the Jesuits and was later initiated by the Franciscans also.
The Jesuits staged an annual mass baptism on the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul (25 January), and in order to secure as many neophytes as possible, a few days before the
ceremony the Jesuits would go through the streets of the Hindu quarters in pairs, accompanied by their Negro slaves, whom they would urge to seize the Hindus. When the blacks caught up a fugitive, they would smear his lips with a piece of beef, making him
an 'untouchable' among his people. Conversion to Christianity was then his only option".

Any wonder then, Arun Shourie coined the term " Harvesting of Souls " ?

Lets come to the other issue - upliftment of Dalits. Here is what a Christian had to write about the Church and the Dalits :

" As per the 2001 census, there are 24.20 million Christians in India of which the Christians of South India constitute 12.5 million, more than half the total Christian population of India, and those of the North-east, 5.4 million. The total population of Tamil Nadu Christians is 3.8 million, Karnataka one million, Kerala 6 million, Andhra Pradesh 1.2 million and Goa 0.4 million. Dalits constitute 65% of the total South Indian Christian population. Some Christian groups even claim that dalits constitute 70% of the Christians of Tamil Nadu ".

Again. " To corrupt George Orwell's famous aphorism: "all Indian Christians are equal, but some are more equal than others". By embracing Christianity, the Dalits have not found themselves emancipated from economic and social inequalities. Conversions have neither offered the Dalits a way of escape from the bondage of caste nor have they fostered the social transformation of the Dalit Christians. They still live under the same conditions of discrimination, exploitation and oppression ".

Also. " Bishop Dr D.K. Sahu, a former general secretary of the National Christian Council of India (NCCI) once said: "The Indian church has to make a confession first. If you are alienated in society and you become a Christian, you are alienated again. We tell them, 'if you become Christian then there is no discrimination', but once they become Christian they are looked down upon by Christians of higher castes. A higher caste Christian will never marry a Dalit Christian, yet we say we are all one."

Further. " By embracing Christianity the Dalits have not found themselves emancipated from economic and social inequities. On the other hand they even find themselves to be victims of double discrimination in their new religion. Jesus himself has said that those who proselytize end up making their "victims" twice as miserable. That is what is happening in the case of Dalits, regardless of whether they seek refuge in Christianity, Islam or Buddhism. Their initial caste identity persists unless they relocate and live in areas where no one knows their antecedents. But, then they become caught up in a quandary when they would like to access the benefits of affirmative action programs such as admissions to educational institutions, government jobs etc by reclaiming their Dalit status. It becomes a CATCH-22 situation ".

Lastly. " The Church has sinned more than others in perpetuating social injustices against Dalit Christians. Casteism is rampant in the Church. Caste discrimination takes many forms among Indian Christians. In rural areas they cannot own or rent houses, however well placed they may be. Inter-caste marriages are frowned upon and caste tags are still appended to the Christian names of high caste people. Humiliating discrimination on the basis of caste does not spare the Dalit Christians even in death.Separate places are marked out for them in the parish churches and burial grounds ".

Also the Jesuits planning to devote more time to the Dalits, forms the underlying thesis of that excellent research work : " Breaking India : Western Interventions in Dravidian
and Dalit Faultlines "
( 2011 ). The book examines :

Dravidian Identity Constructed, Exploited & Politicized

The fabrication of South Indian History is being carried out on an immense scale with the explicit goal of constructing a Dravidian identity that is distinct from that of the rest of India. From the 1830s onwards, this endeavours key milestones have claimed that South India : is linguistically separate from the rest of India; has an un-Indian culture, aesthetics and literature; has a history disconnected from India's; is racially distinct; and, consequently, is a separate Nation. Tamil classical literature that predates the 19th century reveals no such identity conflicts especially with 'ALIEN' peoples of the North, nor does it reveal any sense of victimhood or any view of Westerners or Christians as 'LIBERATORS'. This identity engineering was begun by the British colonial and Missionary scholars, picked up by politically ambitious South Indians with British backing, and subsequently assumed a life of its own. Even then it was largely a 'secular' movement for political power (albeit with a substratum of racist rhetoric). In recent decades, however, a vast network of groups based in the West has co-opted this movement and is attempting to transform Tamil identity into the 'DRAVIDIAN CHRISTIANITY' movement premised on a fabricated racial-religious theory. This re-writing of history has necessitated a range of archaeological falsities and even epigraphic hoaxes, blatantly contradicting scientific evidence. Similar interventions by some of the same global forces have resulted in genocides and civil wars in Sri Lanka, Rwanda and other places.

IF UNCHALLENGED THESE MOVEMENTS COULD PRODUCE HORRIFIC OUTCOMES IN sOUTH INDIA.

Linking Dravidian and Dalit Identities

India has its own share of social injustices that need to be constantly addressed and resolved. Caste identities have been used to discriminate against others, but these
identities were not always crystallised and ossified as they are today, nor were they against any specific religion per se. Caste identity faultlines became envigorated and politicized through the British Censuses of India, and later intensified in independent India by vote bank politics. A dangerous anti-national grand narrative emerged based on claims of a racial Dalit identity and victimhood. But Dalit communities are not monolithic and have diverse local histories and social dynamics. There are several inconsistencies and errors in these caste classifications: not all Dalit communities are equivalent socially and economically, nor are they static or always subordinate to others. While Dravidian and Dalit identities were constructed separately, there is a strategy at work to link them in order to denigrate and demonize Indian classical tradition (including spiritual texts and the identities based on these) as a common enemy. This in turn has been 'mapped' on to an Afro-Dalit narrative which claims that Dalits are racially related to Africans and all other Indians are the 'WHITES'. Thus, Indian
Civilization itself is demonized as anti-humanistic and oppressive. This has become the playground of major foreign players, both from the evangelical right and from the academic left. It has opened huge career opportunities for an assortment of middlemen including NGOs, intellectuals and 'champions of the oppressed'. While the need for relief and structural change is immense, the shortsighted selfish politics is often empowering the movements' leaders more than the people in whose name the power is being accumulated. The 'SOLUTIONS' could exacerbate the problems.

Lastly, here is a sample of the 'Jesuits Anti-National Activity'. Entitled, " Of Jesuits and Maoists ", the author of the Article wrote :

" The Herald Journal on 1st August 1981 carried this story titled "Jesuit Priests told they can work with Marxist efforts for common good". The head of the world wide order of Jesuit Priests has told them that while "Marxist analysis" cannot be expected as whole, they could work with any of its efforts for the common good. The relationship between Christianity and Marxism is an immediate and explosive issue in Latin America where "liberation theologists" link some Marxist ideas with Christian objectives of justice. This influence of Communist ideas on the Jesuit order dates further back.In a book titled "Breaking with Communism: the intellectual odyseey of Bertram D Wolfe"  published in 1990 one finds an interesting letter penned by Bertram D. Wolfe to a Jesuit by the name William Moynihan from July of 1972. The letter is about lessons from Thomas Jefferson's life. Expressing apprehensions on whether Thomas Jefferson would be presented accurately at a Jesuit symposium, Bertram Wolfe writes the below:

This thought (Wolfe's view of Jefferson) is particulary at a moment when on the margins of the Society of Jesus an infection is spreading, of Jesuit Maoism and Jesuit Marxism-Leninism. The weakening tissues of thought that prove the most frequent breeding ground for the spread of the infection are the coquetting I find fashionable in some Jesuit circles with the "Marxism of the young Marx", which I take to be a desire to be
"with it" and engage in a dialogue with the Marxist-Leninist as some sort of also-Marxist'.

The letter delves further on Marxist influence within the Jesuit cause.

Closer home in India Jesuit Priest Ambrose Pinto who is on record saying the Maoists have a legitimate claim and a just cause. Writing in a catholic newspaper in 2009 this is what he had to say : ' at the heart of the problem is a battle between two models of development. Prime Minister Singh and mainstream national and state administrations are pursuing a "neo-liberal" model which encourages foreign investment and welcomes multi-national corporations. This approach, says Pinto, has seen tens of thousands of local and tribal people displaced to make way for such things as steel mills, power plants, mine developments and special economic zones. The global recession has caused havoc with this approach, spurred unemployment, misery and impoverishment, andprovided recruits for the Maoists, he said. "It is this model that the Naxals and Maoists are opposing," wrote Pinto. "They are asking for a local model of development that would not
destroy the life and livelihood of the people."

Pinto says the Maoists and Naxalites have a legitimate claim to a share of the profits from the resources of their land. So it should come as no surprise that Gujarat based Jesuit groups have been actively advocating the Maoist cause within the secular banner of
the Adivasi Mahasabha ".
