இன்றைக்கு சிறுதுளி 10ஆம் ஆண்டு விழாவை கண்டிருக்கிறது. சிறுதுளி பெருவெள்ளம் என்ற கருத்தை மெய்யாக்கும் வகையில் இன்றைக்கு கோயம்புத்தூரை ஒரு பசுமையான, நீர் நிலைகள் நிரம்பிய, சுகாதாரமான ஊராக மாற்றி, அதன் பூமி தண்ணீர் இருப்பை பன் மடங்கு உயர்த்திய பெருமை சிறுதுளியை சாறும் என்றால் அதற்கு சாட்சி தான் இந்த 10ம் ஆண்டு விழா. எந்த ஒரு இயக்கமும், மக்கள் இயக்கமாக மாறி அது ஒரு சமூகம் சார்ந்த பொது நல நோக்கோடு இயங்கும் பொழுது அதன் கொள்களை விட்டு பிரழ்வதற்கு வாய்ப்பு மிக அதிகம். ஆனால் கொண்ட கொள்கையை சிரமேற்கொண்டு, மக்கள் அனைவரது ஒத்துழைப்புடன், அரசு மற்றும் மாவட்ட நிர்வாகத்தின் துணை கொண்டு, தொழில், வர்த்தகம் மற்றும் சேவை நிறுவனங்களின் பங்களிப்புடன் ஒரு இயக்கம் சாதித்து காட்டியிருக்கிறது என்றால் அது சிறுதுளி இயக்கம் தான். எனவே இப்படிப்பட்ட சாதனையை செய்த சிறுதுளி இயக்கத்தாருக்கும், மாநில அரசிற்கும், மாவட்ட நிர்வாகத்திற்கும், எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் மேலாக ஒத்துளைத்து சாதித்து காட்டிய கோயம்புத்தூர் மாவட்ட மக்களும் எனது மனமார்ந்த நல்வாழ்த்துக்களை தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிறேன். எனவே நண்பர்களே இன்றைக்கு உங்களுடன் சில கருத்துக்களை "நாடு செளிக்க திக்கெட்டும் பரவட்டும் இந்த சிறுதுளி திட்டம்".
இங்கு நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மாணவர்களை பார்க்கும் பொழுது அவர்களுடன் சிறுது நேரம் உரையாடிவிட்டு இந்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு வருகிறேன்.
How to achieve unique you?
Dear friends, how are you? When I see you all bublling with enthusiasm, I could see the something radiating you?re your face. You all born to achieve something unique in this world. How does achievement come? This may be a very big question in your minds. Friends, there are four proven steps to achieve something unique in your life; First one having an aim in life before 20 years of age, second one is acquiring knowledge continuously, third one is Sweat, sweat and Sweat that is hard work but you should do smartly towards realizing the aim and Fourth one is perseverance, that means You should become the captain of the problem, defeat the problem and succeed. In this connection, let me recall famous ancient verses "I will fly" of 13th century Persian Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi:
I will fly
"I am born with potential.
I am born with goodness and trust.
I am born with ideas and dreams.
I am born with greatness.
I am born with confidence.
I am born with wings.
So, I am not meant for crawling,
I have wings, I will fly
I will fly and fly"
My message to you, young friends, is that education gives you wings to fly. Achievement comes out of fire in our sub-conscious mind that "I will win". So, each one of you assembled here and elsewhere, will have "Wings of Fire". The Wing of Fire will indeed lead to knowledge which will make you to fly as you like.
Missing Lake
நண்பர்களே, சமீபத்தில் ஒரு செய்தியை படித்தேன். உத்திர பிரதேசத்தில் நடந்த ஒரு உண்மை சம்பவம். அதாவது ஒருவர் வெளிநாட்டில் இருந்து தனது கிராமத்திற்கு 10 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து வருகிறார். வந்த உடன் அவருக்கு ஒரு அதிர்ச்சி காத்திருக்கிறது. அந்த அதிர்ச்சியில் இருந்து மீண்டு, மாவட்ட ஆட்சித்தலைவரிடம் சென்று மனு கொடுத்தார். என்ன வென்று தெரியுமா, அதாவது சிறுவயதில் தான் குளித்து, நீந்தி விளையாடிய கிராம ஊரணியை காணவில்லை என்று, புகார் பண்ணியிருக்கிறார். மாவட்ட ஆட்சித்தலைவருக்கோ மிக்க அதிர்ச்சி, அவர் உடனடியாக அந்த கிராமத்தை பார்வையிட வந்து பார்த்தால், ஆமாம் அவருக்கும் அதிர்ச்சி அங்கு அரசு பதிவேட்டில் இருக்கின்ற ஊரணியை காணவில்லை தான். ஆமாம், அங்கு மிகப்பெரிய சாப்பிங் காம்லக்ஸ் அனுமதியில்லாமல் எழும்பியிருக்கிறது. அந்த ஊரணிக்கு வரவேண்டிய கால்வாய்கள், அதிலிருந்து போகும், போக்கு கால்வாய்களெல்லாம் மூடப்பட்டு, ஊர் எங்கும் சாக்கடைக்கழிவுகள் கலக்கப்பட்டு, சுகாதரம் அற்று இருக்கிறது ஊர். உடனே அந்த மாவட்ட ஆட்சித்தலைவர் ஆக்கிரமிப்பை அகற்றி ஊரணியை சீர்படுத்த நடவடிக்கை எடுத்துள்ளார். இந்த சம்பவம், நகைச்சுவையாக இருந்தாலும் உண்மை. உண்மை சுடும். இது போல் நம் நாட்டில், தமிழ்நாட்டில் எத்தனை ஊரணிகள் காணமல் போய்விட்டனவோ தெரியவில்லை. அதை கண்டுபிடித்து தூர்வார அரசுக்கு பத்திரிக்கைகள் உதவவேண்டும். இதன் மூலம் நீர்வளத்தை நாம் பெருக்க முடியும். ஆனால் சிறுதுளி இயக்கம் இப்படிப்பட்ட நிலைமை கோயம்புத்தூருக்கு வராமல் பாதுகாத்திருக்கிறது. உங்களுக்கு என் வாழ்த்துக்கள். சிறுதுளி இயக்கத்தைப்பற்றி நினைக்கும் பொழுது உங்கள் சாதனைகளைப்பற்றி பாராட்டாமல் இருக்க முடியாது.
சிறுதுளி மக்கள் சக்தியின் வெளிப்பாடு
2003 ம்ஆண்டு கோயம்புத்தூரில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள தண்ணீர் பிரச்சினையையும், சுற்றுப்புற சுகாதாரப்பிரச்சினைகளையும் ஒரு சவாலாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, மாநில அரசிற்கும் மட்டும் இது பொருப்பல்ல, மக்களுக்கும் இந்த பொருப்பு சாறும் என்று உணர்ந்து, இந்த சவாலை சந்தித்து வெற்றி பெறவேண்டும் என்ற உயரிய இலட்சிய நோக்கோடு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது தான் சிறுதுளி இயக்கம் என்று நினைக்கும் பொழுது எனக்கு மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. சிறுதுளி ஆரம்பித்த காலம் முதல் இன்றைக்கு 10ம் ஆண்டு விழா காணும் நேரத்திலும், பல் வேறு கால கட்டங்களில் நான் உங்களோடு பணியாற்ற எனக்கு கிடைத்த வாய்ப்பை எண்ணி பெருமைப்படுகிறேன். சிறுதுளி இயக்கத்தின் சாதனையாக நான் பார்ப்பது எண்ணவென்றால்,
1.ஒரு பொது சமுக மற்றும் சுற்றுப்புற சூழல் மாற்றத்திற்கான முயற்சியில் மக்களையும், மாநில அரசையும் இணைத்து தனியார் பங்களிப்புடன் சேர்த்து அதை சாதித்து காட்ட முடியும் என்று நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
2.நீர் நிலைகள் மேலாண்மை, மழை தண்ணீர் சேகரிப்பு, மரம் நட்டு வளர்த்தல் போன்ற நீண்ட காலத்திட்டங்களை மக்கள் ஒன்று கூடி, மக்களால் சாதித்து காட்ட முடியும் என்று நிருபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
3.சமூக மாற்றத்திற்கான மக்கள் இயக்கத்தை எப்படி நீதியாக, நேர்மையாக, இளைஞர்களையும், மாணவர்களையும், சின்னஞ்சிரார்களையும், மற்றும் காவல் துறையையும் இணைத்து சாதிக்க முடியும் என்ற மேலாண்மை தத்துவத்தை நாட்டிற்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டியது.
எனவே இப்படிப்பட்ட சாதனைகள் சரித்திரத்தில் மட்டும் இடம் பெயரக்கூடாது, ஆனால் அது சரித்திரத்தைமாற்றி, என்னால் செய்ய முடியும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை விதையை விதைத்து, நம்மால் முடியும் என்ற உணர்வை வளர்த்து, இந்தியாவால் சாதிக்க முடியும் என்று கோயம்புத்தூர் மக்கள் கட்டியும் கூறும் விதமாக, மக்கள் வளமான வாழ்வுக்கு வழி வகை செய்யும் வகையில் அமைய வேண்டும்.
நீர் நிலைகள் மேலாண்மையில் நந்தன்கரை தடுப்பணை கட்டி 200 மில்லியன் லிட்டர் தண்ணீரை சேமித்த்தோடல்லாமல், 6 கிராமங்களுக்கும், 500 விவசாய குடும்பங்கள் பயன் பெறும் வகையிலும், அந்த பகுதி காட்டில் வாழும் காட்டு விலங்குகள் தாகம் தீர்க்க ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ளீர்கள், என்ன ஒரு உன்னத திட்டம். மாதவராயபுரம் கிராமத்தில் 1300 ஹெட்டேர் நீர் குட்டை திட்டத்தில் 100 ஹெட்டேர் பகுதியில் வேலை முடித்து, மீதமுள்ள பணிகள் தொடங்கி நடப்பதில் மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. பெரிய குளத்திலே 320 ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவிலே மே 2013ல் தூர்வாரப்பெற்ற கண்மாய் இன்றைக்கு முழுவதும் தண்ணீர் நிரம்பி கண்கொள்ள காட்சியளிப்பது என்பது, முல்லைக்கு தேர் கொடுத்தான் பாரி, இந்த கோவைக்கு நீர் கொடுத்தது சிறு துளி என்று போற்ற தோன்றுகிறது. வாழ்த்துக்கள்.
மழைநீர் சேகரிப்பில், இதுவரை 350 மழை நீர் சேகரிப்பு அமைப்புகளை ஏற்படுத்தி சாலையிலும், திறந்த வெளியிலும் இருந்து ஒடும் மழை நீரை சேமிக்க ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ளது, குறிப்பிடத்தக்க அளவில் தரை நீர் கூடுவதற்கு காரணமாக அமைந்து, 1000 அடிக்கும் கீழே தான் தண்ணீர் கிடைக்கும் என்ற நிலை மாற்றி, 300 அடிக்குள் நீர் மட்டம் உயர்ந்துள்ளது, இன்றும் சில பகுதிகளில் 25 முதல் 30 ஆடியில் தண்ணீர் கிடைப்பது, இந்த சிறு துளி திட்டத்தின் வெற்றிக்கு மிகப்பெரிய சான்றாகும்.
மரம் நட்டு வளர்த்தலில், விடுதலை பசுமை பயணத்தின் மூலம் 40,000 மரக்கன்றுகள் சிறைச்சாலையில் உள்ள நண்பர்கள் மூலமும், காக்கும் பசுமைப் பயணத்தின் மூலம் 1000 மரக்களும், பசும்புளரி திட்டத்தின் மூலம் 1 லட்சம் மரக்கன்றுகளும், கலாம் வனம் திட்டத்தின் மூலம் நந்த கிரியில் 1000 மரக்கன்றுகளும் - சொட்டு நீர் பாசனத்தின் மூலமும் நடப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. ரெயில்வே துறையின் மூலமாக அரசூர் கிராம பஞ்சாயத்தில் 7 ஏக்கர் தரிசு நில பரப்பளவில் 3000 மரக்கன்றுகள் நட்டு வளர்த்து பாது காத்திருக்கிறீர்கள். 2013 ஜீன் மாதத்தில் மத்திய சிறைச்சாலையில் 1200 மரங்கள் நட்டு அது 100 சதவீகிதம் அழியாமல் வளர்ந்து வருகிறது. இதன் மூலம், வாழ்வின் பல்வேறு பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்த மக்களுக்கு ஒரு சமூக கடமையின் பரிணாமத்தை உணர்த்தி காட்டியிருக்கீறீர்கள்.
விழிப்புணர்ச்சி முகாம்கள், மூலமாக சிறு குழந்தை முதல், மாணவர்கள், பள்ளிகள், கல்லூரிகள் மற்றும் மக்களுக்கான விழ்ப்புணர்ச்சி முகாம்கள் அமைத்து இந்த சிறுதுளி திட்டத்தின் பயணையும், அவர்கள் எப்படி இதில் கலந்து கொண்டு தங்களது பங்களிப்பை அளிப்பது என்று புரியம் விதமாக விழ்ப்புணர்வு மூகாம்கள் நடத்திய பாங்கு தான் இன்றைக்கு மக்கள் மத்தியில் ஒரு மிகப்பெரிய
ஆதரவையும், பங்களிப்பையும் உறுதிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறது.
இதை பின்பற்றி எனக்கு ஒரு கனவு, திருப்பூரில் உள்ள நொய்யல் ஆற்றை, பெரியகுளம் போல் மாற்றி அமைக்க சிறதுளி அமைப்பு திருப்பூர் ஏற்றுமதி நிறுவனங்கள் மற்றும் திருப்பூர் மக்களோடு இணைந்து செயல் படுத்த முன் வரவேண்டும். அதை நிறைவேற்றி மற்ற மாவட்டங்களும் இதை செயல் படுத்த ஒரு முன்மாதிரியை ஏற்படுத்துவீர்கள் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.
இன்றைக்கு, தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் IAMWARM Project மூலமாக கிட்டதட்ட 6000 ஏரிகளை தூர்வாரி இருக்கிறார்கள். இன்னும் 34000 ஏரிகள் தூர்வாரப்பட வேண்டும்.
இதில் என்ன விசேஷம் என்றால், கிட்டத்தட்ட 7 அரசுத்துறைகள், தமிழ்நாடு விவசாயப் பல்கலைக் கழகத்துடன் இணைந்து, விவசாயிகள், மக்களுடன் சேர்ந்து, கிராமங்களுக்கு என்ன தேவை என்பதை கண்டறிந்து, அவர்களுக்கு வேண்டிய நீர் வளம், நில வளங்களை கண்டறிந்து அவற்றை புதுப்பித்து, மீண்டும் உருவாக்கி நாட்டின் நீர்வளத்தை, நிலவளத்தை மேம்படுத்தும் திட்டத்தை செயல் படுத்துவோது மட்டுமல்ல, அந்த வளங்களை தொடர்ந்து பாதுகாத்து மேம்படுத்தும் வழிமுறையை மக்களின் ஒத்துழைப்போடு செயல் படுத்துவதுதான் சிறப்பம்சம் ஆகும். இது வரை இந்த திட்டத்தின் மூலம் மக்கள் மத்தியிலும், அரசு அதிகாரிகள் மத்தியிலும் ஒரு மனமாற்றத்தை கொண்டு வந்து சாதித்து காட்டியிருக்கிறார்கள். கிட்டத்தட்ட 70000 ஹெக்டேர் களுக்கும் அதிகமாக நெல் விளைச்சலை 2 மடங்காக ஆக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள், 3 லட்சத்திற்கும் அதிகமான ஹெக்டேர் ஆயக்கட்டு பகுதிகளை மேம்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள், 5500 க்கும் அதிகமான ஹெக்டேர் நிலங்களை, சொட்டு நீர்பாசனத்தின் கீழ் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கிறார்கள், கிட்டத்தட்ட 1000 பாசன நீர் நிலைகளை விவசாய நிலங்களில் அமைத்திருக்கிறார்கள், ஒரு இலட்சத்து 40 ஆயிரம் ஹெக்டேர் நிலங்களை தோட்டக்கலை பயிர்கள் பயிரிட்டிருக்கிறார்கள், 16000 விவசாயிகளுக்கு பயிர்ச்சி அளித்து அவர்களை, மேம்படுத்தப்பட்ட விவசாயத்தை செய்யவும், விளைச்சலை அதிகரிக்க செய்யும் பயிற்சி அளித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
சிறு துளியின் அனுபவத்தை தமிழக அரசிற்கு மாவட்ட நிர்வாகம் தெரியப்படுத்தி, அனைத்து மாவட்டங்களும், இந்த திட்டத்தை பின் பற்றி ஆக்கப்பூர்வ மான நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும். உலகவங்கியின் மூலம் தமிழ் நாடு அரசின் IAMWARM Project திட்டத்தில், சிறுதுளி மீதம் உள்ள அனைத்து நீர் நிலைகளையும், தூர்வாரி தமிழகத்தின் நீர் நிலைகள் புதுப்பிக்க படவும், நீர் மட்டம் மேம்பாடு அடையவும், சுற்றுப்புற சூழல் பாதுகாக்கப்படவும் சிறுதுளி சாதித்த்து போல், அனைத்து மாவட்ட மக்களும் ஒரு ஒருங்கிணைப்போடு செயல் படுத்தினால், இன்றும் 2 வருடங்களுக்குள் தமிழகம் தண்ணீர் பற்றாக்குறையில் இருந்து மீண்டெழும் என்று நான் திடமாக நம்புகிறேன். எனவே அந்த இலக்கை சிறுதுளி மாநில அரசின் துணை கொண்டு சாதித்து காட்ட வேண்டும் என்று வாழ்த்துகிறேன்.
Friends, first let me recollect my visit to Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab in 2006 and 2008.
Bringing dignity to society
During the visit I saw the marvelous development which had taken place on the river Kali Bein. I was delighted to see the rejuvenated Kali Bein, the place where the revered Sikh Guru Gurunanak Devji is said to have received enlightenment. Over the years this rivulet had turned into weed choked drain. I saw the river was clean due to the efforts of Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, a priest in a Gurudwara temple and his team. Babaji had organized people?s participation in stopping the massive flow of sewage into the Bein and cleaned 160 km long polluted and choked rivulet within the last five years by deploying on an average 3,000 kar sevaks (volunteer pilgrims) per day. One could see the flow of clean water in this rivulet released from the Tarkina Barrage by the government. The revival of the rivulet recharged the water table as the hand pumps that had become dry for the past 4 decades were pumping out water. Also, I saw speed boats running on the river. The 3 kms stretch which I physically saw was a beautiful site to watch with nice bathing ghats, tree orchards on the bank of the river and well laid out roads parallel to the river. I also saw the great happiness of giving on the faces of the volunteers who had physically participated in this task. Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal felt polluting the river was denying the human rights to the people who were using and benefiting from river and he had taken the initiative that restored the human dignity in that region. As you are on a mission of river revival and beautification,
I am sure as you are on your mission of river rehabilitation you would come out with innovative solutions for water cleaning and environment pollution.
Birth of hundred-thousand trees
Dear friends, you all remember a clean home leads to a clean nation. How? Clean home leads to clean street and roads. Clean street and road leads to clean village or clean town. Clean village and town make clean district and finally clean state. Clean state leads to clean nation. Then Life transforms into a happy family, then a happy society.
Wherever you are, whatever you do, you can certainly make a difference to the environment. It may be home, may be school or college or it may be work centre or walking path on the road or walking in the garden. Let me narrate two events, both related to evolving of green environment.
Two decades ago, I was working in DRDO, where I had the responsibility of setting up the missile ranges and developing long range missile AGNI. One of the ranges is in the island and the other in Chandipur (Orissa). Chandipur is a beautiful place in the background of sea-shore. Whenever I see the sea, I have always been happy, since I was born in an Island and grew-up in the Island.I studied in Chennai with a world famous beach. I walked and walked on the shores of thumba near Tivandrum, where I worked in the early professional career. At Chandipur in-spite of beauty of the sea-shore, I always felt that something was missing because of the whole missile range looked barren. Wherever possible, 100s of trees were planted. Since, it was a big area, it was insufficient and the area still looked barren. How to make Chandipur green was the challenge?
Greening the missile range
In May 1989, the missile range at Chandipur was very busy. The count down for launch of AGNI-1 was going on for 24 hours counting. We had number of technical problems and geo-political pressures leading to anxiety for the scientific community and the political circles. On the day of launch, all the top guns had landed at Chandipur, apart from my technical team. While the count down was progressing for the next morning launch, the Defence Minister Shri KC Pant ji, Dr. Arunachalam, SA to RM and myself were walking on the beautiful sea-shore near the missile range. It was the full moon night. Our anxieties for the launch at Chandipur turned into positive thinking. Hon'ble Defence Minister was discussing beyond AGNI-1 launch.
Suddenly while we were walking, the Defence Minister turned to me and asked, "Kalam, tomorrow I am sure, AGNI-1 launch will be successful, what you would like to have from me? I was puzzled, what to ask? Spontaneously, I blurted, probably based on what was working in my sub-conscious mind. Sir, "can you sanction for this Chandipur missile range planting and growing of 1,00,000 trees. There was a pin drop silence. Hon?ble Minister said, what a beautiful request. I will sanction as many trees as you want. Today, the Chandipur range looks beautiful with full of trees and it has attracted lovely birds in five years time with the artificial lake. With the money what was given for the tree planting, we also created an artificial lake, using the ground and rain water. Today this artificial lake has become a place of attraction, since birds from many parts of the world come here during the winter season. I always cherish this incident of planting 100,000 trees and creation of artificial lake which I consider as one of the most beautiful events in my life. Of-course, subsequently AGNI-1 launch gave birth to an Island missile range with full of trees and turtles in the background. In the Island, apart from having large number of plants and trees, we can see large number of turtles laying eggs in the isolated area. With the protected environment in our Island ranges, it is a great sight to see turtles coming out of the egg and the turtle off-springs reaching the sea.
During the same period, somewhere in south at RCI Hyderabad, a missile technology centre emanated. With the new way of working while planning the technology centre itself, we included plantation of 100,000 trees which has made that complex very green. I am telling these real life events to all of you friends who have assembled here, so that you can realize that you can make a difference in the preservation of nature in all walks of life. Remember, human beings are the weather makers; we can definitely make good weather.
Birth of mission: ten billion trees
நான் சமீபத்தில் அமெரிக்காவில் உள்ள அலபாமா பல்கலைகழகத்திற்கு சென்ற பொழுது, நாஸாவின் ஓரு புராஜக்ட்டான செவிர் என்ற புராகிராமுடன் இந்தியாவின் ISRO வுடன் இணைந்து இந்தியாவின் இன்றைய மரம் மற்றும் காட்டு வளத்தை அறிந்து, 10 பில்லியன் மரங்களை நாம் முதற்கட்டமாக நட வேண்டும் என்ற இயக்கத்தை இந்திய இளைஞர்கள், மாணவர்களை வைத்து ஆரம்பித்துள்ளேன். அதில் பல்வேறு சமூக அமைப்புகள், மாணவர்கள், பள்ளிகள், மத்திய மாநில அரசுகளோடு இணைந்து அந்த பணி நடை பெறுகிறது. மரம் நடும் இயக்கத்தை பற்றி பேசும் பொழுது எனக்கு வைரமுத்து எழுதிய கவிதை நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது.
அந்த கவிதை என் மனதிற்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தது. அவற்றின் சில பகுதிகளை உங்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன்.

ஆயுதங்களை மனிதன் அதிகம் பிரயோகித்தது மரங்களின் மீதுதான்.

மரத்திடம் வா. ஓவ்வொரு மரமும் போதி மரம்.
ஆகா, என்ன உயிரோட்டமான கவிதை. இந்த கவிதையை படித்த பின்பு மரத்தை பற்றிய எண்ணம் எவ்வளவு உயர்வாக இருக்கும். ஓவ்வொரு மனிதனும், மானுடனாக வேண்டும் என்றால் நாம் ஓரு மரத்தையாவது நாம் வளர்க்க வேண்டும். மரம், வைரமுத்து சொன்ன இத்தனை பலன்களை மட்டும் தரவில்லை, ஓரு மரம் 20 கிலோ கிராம் கார்பன் டை ஆக்ஸைடை ஓரு வருடத்திற்கு உள் வாங்கி அழித்து, 14 கிலோ கிராம் ஆக்ஸிஜனை வெளியிடுகிறது. அப்படி என்றால், நாம் ஓவ்வொருவரும் நம் வாழ் நாளில் 10 மரங்கள் நட்டு அதைப்பாதுகாத்தால், 10 பில்லியன் மரங்களை நாம் நடுவோம் என்ற இலக்கை இலகுவாக அடைய முடியும். அப்படி 10 பில்லியன் மரங்களை நாம் நட்டால் இந்தியா மாறிவரும் தட்ப வெட்ப சூழலை சமாளித்து, நமது எதிர்கால வாழ்க்கையை வழப்படுத்த இயலும். எனவே நண்பர்களே, நாம் அனைவரும் நமது வாழ்வில் 10 மரம் நட்டு, நாட்டிற்கு, இந்த உலகத்திற்கு ஓர் வழிகாட்டியா மாறுவோமா.
In conclusion, I would like to make an important suggestion to Covai city.
Conclusion: Covai to transform into Solar Powered Hub
Friends, when I am in this famous Covai city, I was asking myself what the uniqueness of this great city is. Covai is the city of innovation, city of creativity and above all it had generated creative leaders who had initiated starting small, medium to big scale industries and made Covai the city of entrepreneurs and enterprises. And also, Covai is the birth place of many innovative systems which are world famous in many sectors. Today the question before all of you is: How to save the industries which are affected due to frequent power shortages. How to revive the industries which are facing lot of difficulty for survival such as agriculture and agro food processing industry, textile industry, automobile industry, tools and dyes industry, foundries and all other small scale and Medium Scale industries which are affected due to power cuts and above all, many lost the work and getting migrated. Yes, it the challenging time for Covai.
This is the time, the innovative minds of Covai has to blossom and work for creating innovative systems, products and business model to generate power a basic requirement for industrial growth. I would like to share with you one experience with all of you. In my home town Rameshwaram, my 97 old brother is living in a joint family at our ancient house. Due to frequent power shortages, quite often that created lot of inconvenience at this age and also every day around 1000 visitors from all over India to the gallery and library get disappointed because of non-availability of power. Particularly my brother does Namas five times including very early morning namas at 4 o? clock. In such a situation, I thought there is no other way other than converting our house as a solar powered house. We were estimated the power consumption up to 6 KW for the house including the Gallery and Digital library facility. I have decided to go far fully solar powered house. Yes, it costed me, with Government subsidy it was affordable with long term consumption pattern. When we replaced all the lights and bulbs in to LED, the total consumption has reduced to 2.5 KW instead of 6 KW. Now my home at Rameshwaram is fully solar powered house and the power is available for 24 hours. Today it makes 1000?s of visitors happy mostly young. I could see the smiles on the faces including my family members. May be it may cost me Rs. 10 per unit, but I strongly believe if it done in a micro grid comprising of many homes, it may come down to less than Rs. 6 per unit of consumption due to the innovative business model which you are going to evolve. But cost of sharing according to their need will further reduce and make it more affordable and continuously available.
Based on my experiences, I suggest 5 point programme for the people of Covai.
Citizen can design Solar Home Grid ? which will power all the houses into solar powered houses. This can be formulated as a cooperative model combining many streets together as a block. In the long run, it will be economical. The electric power used by the houses will be spared to industries and cross subsidy will reduce the cost.
Small Scale Industries can join together and form ? SSI Solar Micro Grid as a cluster through a cooperative management system.
Small Medium Enterprises and Big Enterprises can create their own grid independently or in a SME Corporate Solar Power Grid under a cooperative management system.
These three Solar Grid with the supportive Solar Policies of Tamilnadu Government, Covai should become a famous Solar Powered HUB. This will make Covai a centre for Solar power industry, particularly in manufacturing nano technology based Solar PV Cells with Carbon Nano Tubes, Solar panel, solar thermal systems, endurable Nano battery systems, various accessories and maintenance for solar industry.
Hence, it is an opportunity for the Covai to transform into a Solar Power City and the Centre of Excellence in creating skill development centre for Solar power for the whole nation and abroad.

1. நான் என் வீட்டிலோ, காட்டிலோ, பல்கலைகழகத்திலோ, பள்ளியிலோ, வேலை தலத்திலோ - 10 மரங்களை நட்டு வளர்த்து அதை பாதுகாப்பேன். அது மட்டுமல்ல எனது தம்பி மற்றும் தங்கைகளை, மற்றும் பக்கத்து வீட்டு நண்பர்களையும் 10 மரங்களை நட்டு வளர்க்க தூண்டு கோலாக இருப்பேன்.

How to achieve unique you?
Dear friends, how are you? When I see you all bublling with enthusiasm, I could see the something radiating you?re your face. You all born to achieve something unique in this world. How does achievement come? This may be a very big question in your minds. Friends, there are four proven steps to achieve something unique in your life; First one having an aim in life before 20 years of age, second one is acquiring knowledge continuously, third one is Sweat, sweat and Sweat that is hard work but you should do smartly towards realizing the aim and Fourth one is perseverance, that means You should become the captain of the problem, defeat the problem and succeed. In this connection, let me recall famous ancient verses "I will fly" of 13th century Persian Sufi poet Jalaluddin Rumi:
I will fly
"I am born with potential.
I am born with goodness and trust.
I am born with ideas and dreams.
I am born with greatness.
I am born with confidence.
I am born with wings.
So, I am not meant for crawling,
I have wings, I will fly
I will fly and fly"
My message to you, young friends, is that education gives you wings to fly. Achievement comes out of fire in our sub-conscious mind that "I will win". So, each one of you assembled here and elsewhere, will have "Wings of Fire". The Wing of Fire will indeed lead to knowledge which will make you to fly as you like.
Missing Lake
நண்பர்களே, சமீபத்தில் ஒரு செய்தியை படித்தேன். உத்திர பிரதேசத்தில் நடந்த ஒரு உண்மை சம்பவம். அதாவது ஒருவர் வெளிநாட்டில் இருந்து தனது கிராமத்திற்கு 10 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து வருகிறார். வந்த உடன் அவருக்கு ஒரு அதிர்ச்சி காத்திருக்கிறது. அந்த அதிர்ச்சியில் இருந்து மீண்டு, மாவட்ட ஆட்சித்தலைவரிடம் சென்று மனு கொடுத்தார். என்ன வென்று தெரியுமா, அதாவது சிறுவயதில் தான் குளித்து, நீந்தி விளையாடிய கிராம ஊரணியை காணவில்லை என்று, புகார் பண்ணியிருக்கிறார். மாவட்ட ஆட்சித்தலைவருக்கோ மிக்க அதிர்ச்சி, அவர் உடனடியாக அந்த கிராமத்தை பார்வையிட வந்து பார்த்தால், ஆமாம் அவருக்கும் அதிர்ச்சி அங்கு அரசு பதிவேட்டில் இருக்கின்ற ஊரணியை காணவில்லை தான். ஆமாம், அங்கு மிகப்பெரிய சாப்பிங் காம்லக்ஸ் அனுமதியில்லாமல் எழும்பியிருக்கிறது. அந்த ஊரணிக்கு வரவேண்டிய கால்வாய்கள், அதிலிருந்து போகும், போக்கு கால்வாய்களெல்லாம் மூடப்பட்டு, ஊர் எங்கும் சாக்கடைக்கழிவுகள் கலக்கப்பட்டு, சுகாதரம் அற்று இருக்கிறது ஊர். உடனே அந்த மாவட்ட ஆட்சித்தலைவர் ஆக்கிரமிப்பை அகற்றி ஊரணியை சீர்படுத்த நடவடிக்கை எடுத்துள்ளார். இந்த சம்பவம், நகைச்சுவையாக இருந்தாலும் உண்மை. உண்மை சுடும். இது போல் நம் நாட்டில், தமிழ்நாட்டில் எத்தனை ஊரணிகள் காணமல் போய்விட்டனவோ தெரியவில்லை. அதை கண்டுபிடித்து தூர்வார அரசுக்கு பத்திரிக்கைகள் உதவவேண்டும். இதன் மூலம் நீர்வளத்தை நாம் பெருக்க முடியும். ஆனால் சிறுதுளி இயக்கம் இப்படிப்பட்ட நிலைமை கோயம்புத்தூருக்கு வராமல் பாதுகாத்திருக்கிறது. உங்களுக்கு என் வாழ்த்துக்கள். சிறுதுளி இயக்கத்தைப்பற்றி நினைக்கும் பொழுது உங்கள் சாதனைகளைப்பற்றி பாராட்டாமல் இருக்க முடியாது.

2003 ம்ஆண்டு கோயம்புத்தூரில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள தண்ணீர் பிரச்சினையையும், சுற்றுப்புற சுகாதாரப்பிரச்சினைகளையும் ஒரு சவாலாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு, மாநில அரசிற்கும் மட்டும் இது பொருப்பல்ல, மக்களுக்கும் இந்த பொருப்பு சாறும் என்று உணர்ந்து, இந்த சவாலை சந்தித்து வெற்றி பெறவேண்டும் என்ற உயரிய இலட்சிய நோக்கோடு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது தான் சிறுதுளி இயக்கம் என்று நினைக்கும் பொழுது எனக்கு மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. சிறுதுளி ஆரம்பித்த காலம் முதல் இன்றைக்கு 10ம் ஆண்டு விழா காணும் நேரத்திலும், பல் வேறு கால கட்டங்களில் நான் உங்களோடு பணியாற்ற எனக்கு கிடைத்த வாய்ப்பை எண்ணி பெருமைப்படுகிறேன். சிறுதுளி இயக்கத்தின் சாதனையாக நான் பார்ப்பது எண்ணவென்றால்,
1.ஒரு பொது சமுக மற்றும் சுற்றுப்புற சூழல் மாற்றத்திற்கான முயற்சியில் மக்களையும், மாநில அரசையும் இணைத்து தனியார் பங்களிப்புடன் சேர்த்து அதை சாதித்து காட்ட முடியும் என்று நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
2.நீர் நிலைகள் மேலாண்மை, மழை தண்ணீர் சேகரிப்பு, மரம் நட்டு வளர்த்தல் போன்ற நீண்ட காலத்திட்டங்களை மக்கள் ஒன்று கூடி, மக்களால் சாதித்து காட்ட முடியும் என்று நிருபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
3.சமூக மாற்றத்திற்கான மக்கள் இயக்கத்தை எப்படி நீதியாக, நேர்மையாக, இளைஞர்களையும், மாணவர்களையும், சின்னஞ்சிரார்களையும், மற்றும் காவல் துறையையும் இணைத்து சாதிக்க முடியும் என்ற மேலாண்மை தத்துவத்தை நாட்டிற்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டியது.
எனவே இப்படிப்பட்ட சாதனைகள் சரித்திரத்தில் மட்டும் இடம் பெயரக்கூடாது, ஆனால் அது சரித்திரத்தைமாற்றி, என்னால் செய்ய முடியும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை விதையை விதைத்து, நம்மால் முடியும் என்ற உணர்வை வளர்த்து, இந்தியாவால் சாதிக்க முடியும் என்று கோயம்புத்தூர் மக்கள் கட்டியும் கூறும் விதமாக, மக்கள் வளமான வாழ்வுக்கு வழி வகை செய்யும் வகையில் அமைய வேண்டும்.
நீர் நிலைகள் மேலாண்மையில் நந்தன்கரை தடுப்பணை கட்டி 200 மில்லியன் லிட்டர் தண்ணீரை சேமித்த்தோடல்லாமல், 6 கிராமங்களுக்கும், 500 விவசாய குடும்பங்கள் பயன் பெறும் வகையிலும், அந்த பகுதி காட்டில் வாழும் காட்டு விலங்குகள் தாகம் தீர்க்க ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ளீர்கள், என்ன ஒரு உன்னத திட்டம். மாதவராயபுரம் கிராமத்தில் 1300 ஹெட்டேர் நீர் குட்டை திட்டத்தில் 100 ஹெட்டேர் பகுதியில் வேலை முடித்து, மீதமுள்ள பணிகள் தொடங்கி நடப்பதில் மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. பெரிய குளத்திலே 320 ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவிலே மே 2013ல் தூர்வாரப்பெற்ற கண்மாய் இன்றைக்கு முழுவதும் தண்ணீர் நிரம்பி கண்கொள்ள காட்சியளிப்பது என்பது, முல்லைக்கு தேர் கொடுத்தான் பாரி, இந்த கோவைக்கு நீர் கொடுத்தது சிறு துளி என்று போற்ற தோன்றுகிறது. வாழ்த்துக்கள்.
மழைநீர் சேகரிப்பில், இதுவரை 350 மழை நீர் சேகரிப்பு அமைப்புகளை ஏற்படுத்தி சாலையிலும், திறந்த வெளியிலும் இருந்து ஒடும் மழை நீரை சேமிக்க ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ளது, குறிப்பிடத்தக்க அளவில் தரை நீர் கூடுவதற்கு காரணமாக அமைந்து, 1000 அடிக்கும் கீழே தான் தண்ணீர் கிடைக்கும் என்ற நிலை மாற்றி, 300 அடிக்குள் நீர் மட்டம் உயர்ந்துள்ளது, இன்றும் சில பகுதிகளில் 25 முதல் 30 ஆடியில் தண்ணீர் கிடைப்பது, இந்த சிறு துளி திட்டத்தின் வெற்றிக்கு மிகப்பெரிய சான்றாகும்.
மரம் நட்டு வளர்த்தலில், விடுதலை பசுமை பயணத்தின் மூலம் 40,000 மரக்கன்றுகள் சிறைச்சாலையில் உள்ள நண்பர்கள் மூலமும், காக்கும் பசுமைப் பயணத்தின் மூலம் 1000 மரக்களும், பசும்புளரி திட்டத்தின் மூலம் 1 லட்சம் மரக்கன்றுகளும், கலாம் வனம் திட்டத்தின் மூலம் நந்த கிரியில் 1000 மரக்கன்றுகளும் - சொட்டு நீர் பாசனத்தின் மூலமும் நடப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. ரெயில்வே துறையின் மூலமாக அரசூர் கிராம பஞ்சாயத்தில் 7 ஏக்கர் தரிசு நில பரப்பளவில் 3000 மரக்கன்றுகள் நட்டு வளர்த்து பாது காத்திருக்கிறீர்கள். 2013 ஜீன் மாதத்தில் மத்திய சிறைச்சாலையில் 1200 மரங்கள் நட்டு அது 100 சதவீகிதம் அழியாமல் வளர்ந்து வருகிறது. இதன் மூலம், வாழ்வின் பல்வேறு பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்த மக்களுக்கு ஒரு சமூக கடமையின் பரிணாமத்தை உணர்த்தி காட்டியிருக்கீறீர்கள்.
விழிப்புணர்ச்சி முகாம்கள், மூலமாக சிறு குழந்தை முதல், மாணவர்கள், பள்ளிகள், கல்லூரிகள் மற்றும் மக்களுக்கான விழ்ப்புணர்ச்சி முகாம்கள் அமைத்து இந்த சிறுதுளி திட்டத்தின் பயணையும், அவர்கள் எப்படி இதில் கலந்து கொண்டு தங்களது பங்களிப்பை அளிப்பது என்று புரியம் விதமாக விழ்ப்புணர்வு மூகாம்கள் நடத்திய பாங்கு தான் இன்றைக்கு மக்கள் மத்தியில் ஒரு மிகப்பெரிய
ஆதரவையும், பங்களிப்பையும் உறுதிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறது.
இதை பின்பற்றி எனக்கு ஒரு கனவு, திருப்பூரில் உள்ள நொய்யல் ஆற்றை, பெரியகுளம் போல் மாற்றி அமைக்க சிறதுளி அமைப்பு திருப்பூர் ஏற்றுமதி நிறுவனங்கள் மற்றும் திருப்பூர் மக்களோடு இணைந்து செயல் படுத்த முன் வரவேண்டும். அதை நிறைவேற்றி மற்ற மாவட்டங்களும் இதை செயல் படுத்த ஒரு முன்மாதிரியை ஏற்படுத்துவீர்கள் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.
இன்றைக்கு, தமிழ்நாடு அரசின் IAMWARM Project மூலமாக கிட்டதட்ட 6000 ஏரிகளை தூர்வாரி இருக்கிறார்கள். இன்னும் 34000 ஏரிகள் தூர்வாரப்பட வேண்டும்.
இதில் என்ன விசேஷம் என்றால், கிட்டத்தட்ட 7 அரசுத்துறைகள், தமிழ்நாடு விவசாயப் பல்கலைக் கழகத்துடன் இணைந்து, விவசாயிகள், மக்களுடன் சேர்ந்து, கிராமங்களுக்கு என்ன தேவை என்பதை கண்டறிந்து, அவர்களுக்கு வேண்டிய நீர் வளம், நில வளங்களை கண்டறிந்து அவற்றை புதுப்பித்து, மீண்டும் உருவாக்கி நாட்டின் நீர்வளத்தை, நிலவளத்தை மேம்படுத்தும் திட்டத்தை செயல் படுத்துவோது மட்டுமல்ல, அந்த வளங்களை தொடர்ந்து பாதுகாத்து மேம்படுத்தும் வழிமுறையை மக்களின் ஒத்துழைப்போடு செயல் படுத்துவதுதான் சிறப்பம்சம் ஆகும். இது வரை இந்த திட்டத்தின் மூலம் மக்கள் மத்தியிலும், அரசு அதிகாரிகள் மத்தியிலும் ஒரு மனமாற்றத்தை கொண்டு வந்து சாதித்து காட்டியிருக்கிறார்கள். கிட்டத்தட்ட 70000 ஹெக்டேர் களுக்கும் அதிகமாக நெல் விளைச்சலை 2 மடங்காக ஆக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள், 3 லட்சத்திற்கும் அதிகமான ஹெக்டேர் ஆயக்கட்டு பகுதிகளை மேம்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள், 5500 க்கும் அதிகமான ஹெக்டேர் நிலங்களை, சொட்டு நீர்பாசனத்தின் கீழ் கொண்டு வந்திருக்கிறார்கள், கிட்டத்தட்ட 1000 பாசன நீர் நிலைகளை விவசாய நிலங்களில் அமைத்திருக்கிறார்கள், ஒரு இலட்சத்து 40 ஆயிரம் ஹெக்டேர் நிலங்களை தோட்டக்கலை பயிர்கள் பயிரிட்டிருக்கிறார்கள், 16000 விவசாயிகளுக்கு பயிர்ச்சி அளித்து அவர்களை, மேம்படுத்தப்பட்ட விவசாயத்தை செய்யவும், விளைச்சலை அதிகரிக்க செய்யும் பயிற்சி அளித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
சிறு துளியின் அனுபவத்தை தமிழக அரசிற்கு மாவட்ட நிர்வாகம் தெரியப்படுத்தி, அனைத்து மாவட்டங்களும், இந்த திட்டத்தை பின் பற்றி ஆக்கப்பூர்வ மான நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும். உலகவங்கியின் மூலம் தமிழ் நாடு அரசின் IAMWARM Project திட்டத்தில், சிறுதுளி மீதம் உள்ள அனைத்து நீர் நிலைகளையும், தூர்வாரி தமிழகத்தின் நீர் நிலைகள் புதுப்பிக்க படவும், நீர் மட்டம் மேம்பாடு அடையவும், சுற்றுப்புற சூழல் பாதுகாக்கப்படவும் சிறுதுளி சாதித்த்து போல், அனைத்து மாவட்ட மக்களும் ஒரு ஒருங்கிணைப்போடு செயல் படுத்தினால், இன்றும் 2 வருடங்களுக்குள் தமிழகம் தண்ணீர் பற்றாக்குறையில் இருந்து மீண்டெழும் என்று நான் திடமாக நம்புகிறேன். எனவே அந்த இலக்கை சிறுதுளி மாநில அரசின் துணை கொண்டு சாதித்து காட்ட வேண்டும் என்று வாழ்த்துகிறேன்.
Friends, first let me recollect my visit to Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab in 2006 and 2008.
Bringing dignity to society
During the visit I saw the marvelous development which had taken place on the river Kali Bein. I was delighted to see the rejuvenated Kali Bein, the place where the revered Sikh Guru Gurunanak Devji is said to have received enlightenment. Over the years this rivulet had turned into weed choked drain. I saw the river was clean due to the efforts of Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, a priest in a Gurudwara temple and his team. Babaji had organized people?s participation in stopping the massive flow of sewage into the Bein and cleaned 160 km long polluted and choked rivulet within the last five years by deploying on an average 3,000 kar sevaks (volunteer pilgrims) per day. One could see the flow of clean water in this rivulet released from the Tarkina Barrage by the government. The revival of the rivulet recharged the water table as the hand pumps that had become dry for the past 4 decades were pumping out water. Also, I saw speed boats running on the river. The 3 kms stretch which I physically saw was a beautiful site to watch with nice bathing ghats, tree orchards on the bank of the river and well laid out roads parallel to the river. I also saw the great happiness of giving on the faces of the volunteers who had physically participated in this task. Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal felt polluting the river was denying the human rights to the people who were using and benefiting from river and he had taken the initiative that restored the human dignity in that region. As you are on a mission of river revival and beautification,
I am sure as you are on your mission of river rehabilitation you would come out with innovative solutions for water cleaning and environment pollution.
Birth of hundred-thousand trees
Dear friends, you all remember a clean home leads to a clean nation. How? Clean home leads to clean street and roads. Clean street and road leads to clean village or clean town. Clean village and town make clean district and finally clean state. Clean state leads to clean nation. Then Life transforms into a happy family, then a happy society.
Wherever you are, whatever you do, you can certainly make a difference to the environment. It may be home, may be school or college or it may be work centre or walking path on the road or walking in the garden. Let me narrate two events, both related to evolving of green environment.
Two decades ago, I was working in DRDO, where I had the responsibility of setting up the missile ranges and developing long range missile AGNI. One of the ranges is in the island and the other in Chandipur (Orissa). Chandipur is a beautiful place in the background of sea-shore. Whenever I see the sea, I have always been happy, since I was born in an Island and grew-up in the Island.I studied in Chennai with a world famous beach. I walked and walked on the shores of thumba near Tivandrum, where I worked in the early professional career. At Chandipur in-spite of beauty of the sea-shore, I always felt that something was missing because of the whole missile range looked barren. Wherever possible, 100s of trees were planted. Since, it was a big area, it was insufficient and the area still looked barren. How to make Chandipur green was the challenge?
Greening the missile range
In May 1989, the missile range at Chandipur was very busy. The count down for launch of AGNI-1 was going on for 24 hours counting. We had number of technical problems and geo-political pressures leading to anxiety for the scientific community and the political circles. On the day of launch, all the top guns had landed at Chandipur, apart from my technical team. While the count down was progressing for the next morning launch, the Defence Minister Shri KC Pant ji, Dr. Arunachalam, SA to RM and myself were walking on the beautiful sea-shore near the missile range. It was the full moon night. Our anxieties for the launch at Chandipur turned into positive thinking. Hon'ble Defence Minister was discussing beyond AGNI-1 launch.
Suddenly while we were walking, the Defence Minister turned to me and asked, "Kalam, tomorrow I am sure, AGNI-1 launch will be successful, what you would like to have from me? I was puzzled, what to ask? Spontaneously, I blurted, probably based on what was working in my sub-conscious mind. Sir, "can you sanction for this Chandipur missile range planting and growing of 1,00,000 trees. There was a pin drop silence. Hon?ble Minister said, what a beautiful request. I will sanction as many trees as you want. Today, the Chandipur range looks beautiful with full of trees and it has attracted lovely birds in five years time with the artificial lake. With the money what was given for the tree planting, we also created an artificial lake, using the ground and rain water. Today this artificial lake has become a place of attraction, since birds from many parts of the world come here during the winter season. I always cherish this incident of planting 100,000 trees and creation of artificial lake which I consider as one of the most beautiful events in my life. Of-course, subsequently AGNI-1 launch gave birth to an Island missile range with full of trees and turtles in the background. In the Island, apart from having large number of plants and trees, we can see large number of turtles laying eggs in the isolated area. With the protected environment in our Island ranges, it is a great sight to see turtles coming out of the egg and the turtle off-springs reaching the sea.
During the same period, somewhere in south at RCI Hyderabad, a missile technology centre emanated. With the new way of working while planning the technology centre itself, we included plantation of 100,000 trees which has made that complex very green. I am telling these real life events to all of you friends who have assembled here, so that you can realize that you can make a difference in the preservation of nature in all walks of life. Remember, human beings are the weather makers; we can definitely make good weather.
Birth of mission: ten billion trees
நான் சமீபத்தில் அமெரிக்காவில் உள்ள அலபாமா பல்கலைகழகத்திற்கு சென்ற பொழுது, நாஸாவின் ஓரு புராஜக்ட்டான செவிர் என்ற புராகிராமுடன் இந்தியாவின் ISRO வுடன் இணைந்து இந்தியாவின் இன்றைய மரம் மற்றும் காட்டு வளத்தை அறிந்து, 10 பில்லியன் மரங்களை நாம் முதற்கட்டமாக நட வேண்டும் என்ற இயக்கத்தை இந்திய இளைஞர்கள், மாணவர்களை வைத்து ஆரம்பித்துள்ளேன். அதில் பல்வேறு சமூக அமைப்புகள், மாணவர்கள், பள்ளிகள், மத்திய மாநில அரசுகளோடு இணைந்து அந்த பணி நடை பெறுகிறது. மரம் நடும் இயக்கத்தை பற்றி பேசும் பொழுது எனக்கு வைரமுத்து எழுதிய கவிதை நினைவுக்கு வருகிறது.
அந்த கவிதை என் மனதிற்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தது. அவற்றின் சில பகுதிகளை உங்களுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள விரும்புகிறேன்.

ஆயுதங்களை மனிதன் அதிகம் பிரயோகித்தது மரங்களின் மீதுதான்.

மனிதன் மனிதனாக வேண்டடுமா
மரத்திடம் வா. ஓவ்வொரு மரமும் போதி மரம்.
ஆகா, என்ன உயிரோட்டமான கவிதை. இந்த கவிதையை படித்த பின்பு மரத்தை பற்றிய எண்ணம் எவ்வளவு உயர்வாக இருக்கும். ஓவ்வொரு மனிதனும், மானுடனாக வேண்டும் என்றால் நாம் ஓரு மரத்தையாவது நாம் வளர்க்க வேண்டும். மரம், வைரமுத்து சொன்ன இத்தனை பலன்களை மட்டும் தரவில்லை, ஓரு மரம் 20 கிலோ கிராம் கார்பன் டை ஆக்ஸைடை ஓரு வருடத்திற்கு உள் வாங்கி அழித்து, 14 கிலோ கிராம் ஆக்ஸிஜனை வெளியிடுகிறது. அப்படி என்றால், நாம் ஓவ்வொருவரும் நம் வாழ் நாளில் 10 மரங்கள் நட்டு அதைப்பாதுகாத்தால், 10 பில்லியன் மரங்களை நாம் நடுவோம் என்ற இலக்கை இலகுவாக அடைய முடியும். அப்படி 10 பில்லியன் மரங்களை நாம் நட்டால் இந்தியா மாறிவரும் தட்ப வெட்ப சூழலை சமாளித்து, நமது எதிர்கால வாழ்க்கையை வழப்படுத்த இயலும். எனவே நண்பர்களே, நாம் அனைவரும் நமது வாழ்வில் 10 மரம் நட்டு, நாட்டிற்கு, இந்த உலகத்திற்கு ஓர் வழிகாட்டியா மாறுவோமா.
In conclusion, I would like to make an important suggestion to Covai city.
Conclusion: Covai to transform into Solar Powered Hub
Friends, when I am in this famous Covai city, I was asking myself what the uniqueness of this great city is. Covai is the city of innovation, city of creativity and above all it had generated creative leaders who had initiated starting small, medium to big scale industries and made Covai the city of entrepreneurs and enterprises. And also, Covai is the birth place of many innovative systems which are world famous in many sectors. Today the question before all of you is: How to save the industries which are affected due to frequent power shortages. How to revive the industries which are facing lot of difficulty for survival such as agriculture and agro food processing industry, textile industry, automobile industry, tools and dyes industry, foundries and all other small scale and Medium Scale industries which are affected due to power cuts and above all, many lost the work and getting migrated. Yes, it the challenging time for Covai.
This is the time, the innovative minds of Covai has to blossom and work for creating innovative systems, products and business model to generate power a basic requirement for industrial growth. I would like to share with you one experience with all of you. In my home town Rameshwaram, my 97 old brother is living in a joint family at our ancient house. Due to frequent power shortages, quite often that created lot of inconvenience at this age and also every day around 1000 visitors from all over India to the gallery and library get disappointed because of non-availability of power. Particularly my brother does Namas five times including very early morning namas at 4 o? clock. In such a situation, I thought there is no other way other than converting our house as a solar powered house. We were estimated the power consumption up to 6 KW for the house including the Gallery and Digital library facility. I have decided to go far fully solar powered house. Yes, it costed me, with Government subsidy it was affordable with long term consumption pattern. When we replaced all the lights and bulbs in to LED, the total consumption has reduced to 2.5 KW instead of 6 KW. Now my home at Rameshwaram is fully solar powered house and the power is available for 24 hours. Today it makes 1000?s of visitors happy mostly young. I could see the smiles on the faces including my family members. May be it may cost me Rs. 10 per unit, but I strongly believe if it done in a micro grid comprising of many homes, it may come down to less than Rs. 6 per unit of consumption due to the innovative business model which you are going to evolve. But cost of sharing according to their need will further reduce and make it more affordable and continuously available.
Based on my experiences, I suggest 5 point programme for the people of Covai.
Citizen can design Solar Home Grid ? which will power all the houses into solar powered houses. This can be formulated as a cooperative model combining many streets together as a block. In the long run, it will be economical. The electric power used by the houses will be spared to industries and cross subsidy will reduce the cost.
Small Scale Industries can join together and form ? SSI Solar Micro Grid as a cluster through a cooperative management system.
Small Medium Enterprises and Big Enterprises can create their own grid independently or in a SME Corporate Solar Power Grid under a cooperative management system.
These three Solar Grid with the supportive Solar Policies of Tamilnadu Government, Covai should become a famous Solar Powered HUB. This will make Covai a centre for Solar power industry, particularly in manufacturing nano technology based Solar PV Cells with Carbon Nano Tubes, Solar panel, solar thermal systems, endurable Nano battery systems, various accessories and maintenance for solar industry.
Hence, it is an opportunity for the Covai to transform into a Solar Power City and the Centre of Excellence in creating skill development centre for Solar power for the whole nation and abroad.

மாணவர்களே, நான் சொல்வதை திரும்பிச் சொல்லுங்கள் பார்ப்போம்.
1. நான் என் வீட்டிலோ, காட்டிலோ, பல்கலைகழகத்திலோ, பள்ளியிலோ, வேலை தலத்திலோ - 10 மரங்களை நட்டு வளர்த்து அதை பாதுகாப்பேன். அது மட்டுமல்ல எனது தம்பி மற்றும் தங்கைகளை, மற்றும் பக்கத்து வீட்டு நண்பர்களையும் 10 மரங்களை நட்டு வளர்க்க தூண்டு கோலாக இருப்பேன்.
2. எனது அழியா சொத்தாக மரங்களை என் சந்ததிக்கு விட்டு செல்வேன். ? செல்வீர்களா?
3. 100 கோடி மரங்கள் நடும் இயக்கத்தில் என்னை ஈடுபடுத்தி அதை சிரமேற்கொண்டு செயல் படுத்துவேன். - செயல்படுத்துவீர்களா?
